The Healthy Colorado Youth Alliance

The Prevention First Colorado Coalition’s Teen Committee voted unanimously to join the efforts of a blossoming coalition whose main focus would be the successful implementation of HB07-1292 (Standards for Sex Education) or the comprehensive sexuality education in schools bill. The group officially became The Healthy Colorado Youth Alliance recently and is composed of a diverse collection of organizations dedicated to the implementation of HB07-1292. The Alliance is currently in an early stage of development and the Prevention First Colorado Coalition will be updating this page as information on the campaign’s activities becomes more available.

Background of HB07-1292 (Standards for Sex Education)

The language of the bill is that it "requires school districts, family resource centers, and teen pregnancy prevention programs that offer instruction regarding human sexuality to adopt science-based content standards for such instruction." Also it "specifies the minimum requirements for a school district curriculum concerning human sexuality."

Formation of The Alliance

The Alliance recognized that the work to implement comprehensive sexuality education was not completed with the passing of HB07-1292. Therefore, the coalition was formed to start implementation. The coalition is currently working to set up an effective coalition and has recently hired a campaign director to manage the work of the coalition.
