Coalition Programs

Policy Committee

Our policy program uses original research conducted by Prevention First Colorado with input from the coalition to make policy recommendations specific to the needs of Colorado. Research was conducted in 2006 and 2007 with adult women throughout the state, and based on this research 11 policy recommendations were composed. The report is available on the "Policy Recommendations" page.

Education Committee

Our education program is working on a project that aims to increase contraceptive use in low-income women in Colorado and therefore decrease the unintended pregnancy rate. Our program hopes that through a a clinic based program run in partnership with Denver Health we will be able to reach a large audience of women. To accomplish our goal to increase contraceptive use we are implementing a community-based social marketing campaign that will educate women about their contraceptive choices through a series of advertising campaigns and outreach activities. In addition to the community advertising our program has hired a Health Educator to work out of Denver Health Park Hill clinic to counsel women on contraceptives, pregnancy prevention and planning and STI/STD referals. The campaign aims to organize community interest in the program and establish it as a needed part of the community in hopes that this model will be adopted by other clinics.

Teen Committee

The teen committee unamiously decided to merge with a coalition of advocacy and civic engagement organizations devoted to working on the implementation of HB07-1292, the Sexuality Education bill in Colorado.
